Vol. 491 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drug Testing of Athletes.

Question:

51 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the action, if any, his Department has taken on foot of certain allegations against a person (details supplied); the contact, if any, he or his Department has had with this person since the allegations emerged; and the future measures he intends to take in relation to this matter. [1300/98]

The allegations to which the Deputy refers are a matter between the person named, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and her national governing body.

I spoke by phone with the person concerned, to express my sympathy about what had occurred and to say that, in view of the fact that her achievements have been a source of great pride to this country, I hoped that she would succeed in demonstrating her innocence.
