62 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will make available some of the EU funding, originally earmarked for the Luas project in Dublin, to enable CIE to reopen the rail link from Cork to Midleton and possibly to extend the link to Youghal, County Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter. 63 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Public Enterprise whether she will ensure that sufficient money is allocated to upgrade the rail link from Dublin to Rosslare Harbour in view of her statement in Dáil Éireann in relation to money decommitted to the Luas project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. 64 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Public Enterprise whether she will ensure that the £114 million Luas funds now available for alternative projects will be made available to provide a double railway line between Dublin and Maynooth, and other measures to provide greater safety and comfort to commuters; and if she will make a statement on the matter. 66 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will arrange to have discussions with the European Commission to transfer £40 million not being used for transport works on the Luas project for the purpose of upgrading the western rail link to Westport and Ballina; and if she will make a statement on the matter. 65 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the projected costs of upgrading the western rail link from Athlone to Westport and Ballina, at current costs; the plans, if any, she has to have this section of the national rail network upgraded; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I have no statutory responsibility for this issue which is an operational matter for Córas Iompair Éireann and its subsidiary company, Iarnród Éireann.

67 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will confirm the Government's intention to maintain and upgrade the western rail link to Westport and Ballina, as an integral part of the national transport system; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11408/98]
