Vol. 491 No. 1

Written Answers. - Accident Report.

Richard Bruton

Question:

103 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the circumstances of an accident reported in the newspapers (details supplied); his views on whether there are lessons to be drawn in relation to Garda procedures from the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11560/98]

I am informed that the Dublin City Coroner will be writing to the emergency services, including the Garda Síochána, following an inquest arising from the tragic accident referred to by the Deputy. When the coroner's views are received, any issues which are of relevance to the Garda Síochána will be given appropriate consideration by the Garda authorities. I am informed also that the Garda Commissioner is in receipt of correspondence from the family in question and that the concerns raised will be addressed in a substantive reply in the near future.
