Vol. 491 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tourism Figures.

Ivor Callely

Question:

109 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number of tourists from the United Kingdom expected to holiday in Ireland in 1998; the expected increase on 1988 figures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11378/98]

The number of visitors from Britain to Ireland in 1998 is expected by Bord Fáilte to exceed three million. This represents a 100 per cent increase on the corresponding figure of 1,508,000 in 1988.

This will be an outstanding achievement.
