Vol. 491 No. 2

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

Question:

89 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps, if any, he has taken to ensure that crime prevention is taken fully into account by local authorities in the management of local authority residential areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11502/98]

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, I have no function in relation to local authorities. I am concerned, however, that we take a broad perspective of crime and develop an integrated response to crime in all its forms. For this reason the National Crime Forum comprised representatives from two local authorities and also the Department of the Environment and Local Government. The forum is in the process of finalising its report and I will ensure that copies are circulated widely when it becomes available.
