Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Agricultural Schemes.

David Stanton

Question:

227 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the range of grant schemes and other supports administered under the auspices of his Department; the plans, if any, he has to change or terminate any schemes in the near future; the new supports or schemes, if any, planned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12255/98]

Details of grant schemes and other supports administered under the auspices of my Department are included in the Department's publication Schemes and Services 1998. The large number of current schemes include income supports such as headage and premia payments, disease eradication measures, market support measures for agricultural products, early retirement from farming as well as rural environmental measures.

The position is that all schemes are kept under regular review in the light of demand and the pattern of expenditure. A number of these schemes are operated under EU regulations and their operation is determined by developments at EU level.
