Question:

506 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of teachers employed in special schools. [11983/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 505 and 506 together.

There are 112 recognised special schools which cater for children with special needs in the four to 18 years age group. The great majority of these schools cater for children with physical or intellectual disabilities. A total of 1,033 teachers are currently employed in these special schools.
