Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Paediatric Services.

Liam Aylward

Question:

177 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have arrangements made for the appointment of two paediatricians to St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, by the South Eastern Health Board, for which approval was granted by his Department some time ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12760/98]

Two consultant paediatric posts for St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, were approved by Comhairle na nOspidéal on 2 May 1997. My Department has provided funding of £150,000 to the South-Eastern Health Board in their 1998 allocation to support appointments to these posts in the current year.

The arrangements for these consultant appointments are a matter for the health board. I understand from the board that the Local Appointments Commission held interviews recently and have recommended two candidates to the South-Eastern Health Board. The board has stated that appointments will be made in the autumn with specific dates to be agreed between the board and the candidates involved.
