Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mental Handicap Services.

Jim Higgins

Question:

183 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make the necessary funding available to enable a person (details supplied) in County Mayo to be accommodated at an institution (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12904/98]

As the Deputy will be aware, funding for services for persons with a mental handicap in County Mayo is the responsibility of the Western Health Board.

Additional funding of £742,000 was allocated to the board for the development of new residential and day services in 1998. It is a matter for the board, in consultation with the regional co-ordinating committee, to identify priority needs within the region and to co-ordinate the development and delivery of services, including decisions relating to the individual who will benefit from those services.
