Vol. 491 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Noonan

Question:

190 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Health and Children when the orthopaedic trauma theatre at Limerick Regional Hospital will be brought into use; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13060/98]

A sum of £550,000 has been allocated to the MidWestern Health Board in 1998 to commission new units completed under phase 1 of the major capital development at Limerick Regional Hospital. The board is at present at the stage of equipping the new operating theatres, including the dedicated orthopaedic trauma theatre, included in the development. I understand from the board that this will be completed by 1 September 1998 and that it is envisaged the additional consultant anaesthetic and nursing staff required to enable services to commence will be in place by November of this year.
