Vol. 491 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

186 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the Gaeltacht grants, if any, available for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who intends to build a house on Achill Island. [13280/98]

Under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Acts administered by my Department, grants for the building of houses in Gaeltacht areas are payable to qualified applicants who reside permanently in those areas and who use Irish as their normal household language. Applicants residing in an area which is recognised as a Gaeltacht for the purposes of the Housing (Gaeltacht) Act 1929 only, must be living in an old unsuitable house and the new house must be in substitution for that old house. I will forward an information leaflet about the scheme to the people referred to by the Deputy.
