Vol. 491 No. 7

Written Answers. - Special Education Needs.

Willie Penrose

Question:

218 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that a place will be made available for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath on the senior speech and language class in the Mullingar area, if established by September 1998; if this class is not established, that he will be allowed to continue in the junior speech and language class in the Presentation junior school, Mullingar; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13275/98]

I understand that recent assessment reports indicate that the needs of this child may no longer be capable of being satisfactorily addressed through his continued attendance at the speech and language class.

My Department's inspectorate has been asked to investigate a more suitable educational placement for this child.
