Vol. 491 No. 7

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Joe Higgins. I now call on Deputy Higgins to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

(Dublin West): I seek leave to move the Adjournment of the Dáil in accordance with Standing Order 31 to discuss the following urgent and important matter of public interest, that is the ultimatum by the management of Aer Lingus to 1,550 workers at TEAM Aer Lingus to accept the privatisation of the company and settlement proposals arriving therefrom, which the workers have already rejected, or face the closure of TEAM and whether it is appropriate for a semi-State company to seek to compel a section of its workforce to negotiate under such duress.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
