Vol. 491 No. 7

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Phil Hogan

Question:

63 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to close any barracks in view of the fact that the PDF numbers have decreased dramatically in recent years and there is a commitment to make more personnel available for operational duties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13013/98]

The accommodation requirements of the Defence Forces will be considered within the context of the Defence Forces Review Implementation Plan. This provides for a review of accommodation requirements to be undertaken towards the end of the three year phase one implementation period. The review will consider the future role of all Defence Forces installations and will take cognisance of all pertinent factors, including troop numbers.
