Vol. 491 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tour de France.

Jack Wall

Question:

135 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the proposals, if any, he has put in place for the Defence Forces to assist in the smooth running of the Tour de France this summer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13300/98]

Defence Forces involvement in the Tour de France mainly involves logistical backup to the Civil Defence organisation by the provision of catering facilities and accommodation at various military centres throughout the country. The Civil Defence organisation will provide assistance at the request of the Garda Síochána in relation to safety, stewarding and crowd control along the route. The Defence Forces will also be providing certain other facilities as requested such as camp bedding, showering facilities and emergency medical services. Any further requests received for assistance will be given full consideration.
