Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Question:

209 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to compel the registration of sales or purchases of land with the Land Registry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13419/98]

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that section 24 of the Registration of Title Act, 1964, provides for the extension of compulsory registration to any areas provided for by order of the Minister.

The Deputy will be aware that, with effect from 1 January 1970 the then Minister for Justice designated, by order, Carlow, Laois and Meath as counties to which the compulsory registration provisions of section 24 should apply. I have no plans to extend the provisions of section 24 to any further counties at present.
