Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teaching Posts.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

235 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science to confirm that he has received an application from a school (details supplied) in Dublin 4 for the appointment of a special resource teacher in view of the circumstances (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13365/98]

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

236 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education and Science if the appointment of a special resource teacher will be sanctioned for St. Mary's Star of the Sea School, Sandymount, Dublin 4. [13366/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 235 and 236 together.

I am aware that the school in question has applied for the appointment of a resource teacher. My capacity to allocate additional resource teacher posts in any given year is dependent on resource availability and the level of competing demand from other special needs areas. I have to determine priorities and allocate available resources to best effect. I am currently reviewing provision across the special needs area, including the resource teacher area, to ensure that all available resources are deployed as effectively as possible. I can assure the Deputies that the needs of this school will be considered in the context of any additional resource teacher allocations which may be undertaken for the forthcoming school year.
