Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Willie Penrose

Question:

277 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that a school (details supplied) in County Longford retains its third assistant post in view of the fact that numbers required for retention are in place based upon enrolment figures available in May 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13622/98]

The third teaching post at the school referred to by the Deputy will be lost at the end of the current school year because the enrolment at the school declined from 87 pupils in September, 1996 to 83 pupils in September, 1997. The retention figure for the third teaching post is 87.

The school's projected enrolment for September 1998 is not sufficiently high to warrant the re-appointment of the third teaching post at the school.
