54 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline the expenditure on advertising for 1997 in each of the national daily, evening and Sunday newspapers, by his Department, and bodies under his aegis in receipt of Exchequer funds which are established by or under an Act of the Oireachtas. [13426/98]

The amount incurred in 1997 on advertising in national daily, evening and Sunday newspapers by the Department of Foreign Affairs was £14,345.76 as follows:

Expenditure on advertising by the Department of Foreign Affairs relates mainly to recruitment under the Irish aid programme and to the holiday arrangements for the Passport Offices in Dublin and Cork.
Some invoices relating to advertisements placed by the Department in 1997 were not paid until 1998 -details available on request.
The Ireland-United States Commission for Educational Exchange incurred expenditure of £2,326.10 on advertising in national daily, evening and Sunday newspapers in 1997 as follows:

This expenditure was incurred in the general operation of the commission.
The Agency for Personal Services Overseas, APSO incurred expenditure of £121,978.27 on advertising in national daily, evening and Sunday newspapers as follows:
