Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Tom Enright

Question:

118 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide the necessary staff to facilitate patients entering the new unit at Edenderry District Hospital, County Offaly, in view of the serious overcrowding in Uí Fáile House. [13833/98]

As the Deputy will be aware, provision of health services to older people in County Offaly is a matter for the Midland Health Board. The board reports that discussions with the relevant trade unions concerning the staffing levels at the county nursing unit at Edenderry are currently being finalised and the board is confident that the new unit will open next month.

With regard to Uí Fáile House, the Midland Health Board indicates it is of the opinion that overcrowding does not exist at this particular facility.
