Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Finucane — the EU proposal to ban drift net fishing from the year 2002 and the proposed method of compensation for the many fishermen whose livelihoods depend thereon; (2) Deputy Brian Lenihan — the issue of special educational needs for autistic children and, in particular, the future of Beechpark Special School, Stillorgan, County Dublin; (3) Deputy Lawlor — the possibilities of increasing the pressure on the new regime in Indonesia in relation to vindicating the basic human rights of the people of East Timor, now that Presidential Suharto has departed; (4) Deputy McGinley — the urgent need to have residential care facilities for the elderly on Arranmore Island, County Donegal; (5) Deputy Creed — the need to outline the rationale behind his decision to relocate certain functions of the Department of Agriculture and Food from Hibernian House, South Mall, Cork to Clonakilty; (6) Deputy Briscoe — the plans the Government has to introduce a scheme where couples intending to marry are required to take blood tests to ensure they are not related; (7) Deputy Neville — the need to introduce suicide prevention programmes in view of the increase of 14 per cent in the levels of suicide in 1997; (8) Deputy O'Shea — the need to review the national school capitation system so that it does not discriminate against schools where special needs children are fully integrated into the mainstream school system; (9) Deputy Clune — the need to begin an investigation into the high price of sun protection lotions; (10) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to retain Objective I status for the Border region in the European Union Structural Funds arrangements post-1999; (11) Deputy McCormack — the proposed erection of a transmission mast by Esat Digifone at a site in Maam, County Galway, in close proximity to a national school and the concern this is causing for the parents, teachers and pupils in the area; (12) Deputy Timmins — the failure of the Government to join Partnership for Peace; (13) Deputy Gilmore — the case of a ten year old child (details supplied) who has been unable to attend a school since last November because her parents have been unable to obtain a suitable placing for her; (14) Deputy Quinn — the dispute over the transfer of the 24 hour ambulance service in County Wicklow; (15) Deputy Stanton — the need to ensure that the new building to be constructed to accommodate Walsterstown national school will be a four classroom building in order to meet present and projected requirements; (16) Deputy Fitzgerald — the difficulties facing those who need visas to study English as a foreign language in this country; (17) Deputy Rabbitte — the current position of the various investigations established by or on behalf of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment into the activities of National Irish Bank and related companies and whether or not any additional investigations are contemplated; (18) Deputy Shatter — the need to discuss the Dickensian conditions in the newly opened Riverbank Circuit Family Court; (19) Deputy Broughan — An géarghá atá ann le meánscoil nua lánGhaelach in Oirthuaisceart Bhaile Átha Cliath.
