Vol. 492 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tax Incentives.

Question:

42 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance the submission, if any, he has received from the Dublin Docks Development Authority in relation to the tax incentives which might be provided in order to develop the land within the remit of that body; the nature of his response to any submission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13715/98]

A new scheme of tax incentives for the Dublin Docklands area was introduced in the Finance Act, 1997. The legislation provides that the Minister for Finance, after consultation with the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, following a recommendation from the executive board of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, may designate by order areas of the Dublin Docklands as qualifying areas for the purposes of one or more of the tax reliefs set out in the Finance Act, 1997.

While I have received no submission directly from the Dublin Docks Development Authority, my Department is in receipt of correspondence from the Department of the Environment and Local Government concerning the recommendations of the executive board of the Dublin Docklands Authority for the designation of areas by order for tax incentives. This matter is under examination in my Department and I would hope to make a decision in the near future.
