23 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the terms of the gratuity payments to be offered to councillors under the terms of the Local Government Act, 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13744/98]
Details of the terms of the gratuity payable to councillors who retire before the next local elections will be set out in a scheme to be made under the Local Government Act, 1998, which will be laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas. Work is progressing on the drafting of the scheme and I hope to publish it soon.
