Question:

22 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the inland waterways projects, if any, under way or which will be commenced between June 1998 and 1999; and the timescale for these projects. [14527/98]

The information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Projects now under way

Barrow Navigation — Major dredging, deepening of locks, landing facilities, moorings, slipways, restoration works

End '99

Boyle — Extension of navigation, new harbour

Mid '99

Environmental-Landscaping works — Canal-side amenities, additional moorings, jetties, slipways, signposting, etc.

End '99

Fisheries enhancement — Stocking, access, water-quality-weed management, etc.

End '99

Grand Canal — Upgrading of facilities (Edenderry Harbour wall, Lowtown Jetty, moorings, embankments, etc.)

End '99

Suck River — Extension of navigation to near Ballinasloe, moorings

Royal Canal — Dredging, replacement of lock gates, road and footbridges, repair of bog embankments, canal bed and banks, etc.

Moran's Bridge, Mullingar* — Replacement

End '98

Tralee Ship Canal* — Excavation of canal and harbour, restoration of sea-lock, new lifting bridge
