Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

John Bruton

Question:

240 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will list all the applications for remedial works to local authority housing estates lodged with him by Meath County Council; the date of lodgement in each case; the cost of the proposed works; and the position regarding discussions between his Department and the council in this regard. [14791/98]

Two applications for funding under the remedial works scheme were received in my Department on 24 December 1997 in respect of Claremont Estate, Navan (estimated cost some £5.5 million) and St. Mary's Villas, Donore (estimated cost some £700,000). The Claremont Estate project, to which the council accorded the higher priority, was designated for funding in May and discussions are ongoing with the council regarding design aspects of their proposals for St. Mary's Villas.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

241 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give a breakdown by local authority of the numbers of people on the housing waiting lists, transfer lists, senior citizens lists and homeless lists. [14792/98]

Local authorities carried out an assessment of housing needs and of homelessness at 29 March 1996. Details of the number of households, including the elderly and the homeless, assessed to be in need of local authority housing and of the number of homeless people, for each local authority, were published in the 1996 Housing Statistics Bulletin, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The next assessment of housing needs and of homelessness will be carried out by local authorities in March 1999.

Information on the number of tenants who have applied to local authorities for transfer to another dwelling is not available in the Department.
