My Department has received a joint proposal from the Cork Institute of Technology and the Irish Naval Service for the establishment of a National Maritime College in Ireland.
The proposal is under consideration and the Department of Defence is being consulted on the matter. Any decision regarding the proposal will also have to take account of the recommendations of the Task Force on the Training of Seafarers, established by the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, when its report becomes available.
