Vol. 492 No. 7

Written Answers. - Early School Leavers.

Michael Noonan

Question:

93 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of projects which have sought funding under the programme for early school leavers aged 8 to 15; the level of enrolment in the schools involved; the amount of funding they have sought for their projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14977/98]

A total of 117 completed applications for funding have been received by my Department under the project strand of the early school leavers initiative.

A selection committee comprised of departmental and non-departmental personnel with expertise in the area in question is currently examining all applications and my Department hopes to be in a position to announce the successful projects shortly.

The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the level of enrolment in the schools involved and the amount of funding sought by applicants is not readily available to my Department at this stage in the vetting process. I will arrange to forward this information to the Deputy as soon as it becomes available.
