Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

John Bruton

Question:

456 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a progress report in relation to the establishment of a national educational psychological service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16027/98]

A planning group, representing the main partners in education, was established last September to prepare proposals and make recommendations on the introduction of a national educational psychological service. The planning group included nominees from the Departments of Education and Science, Health and Children and Finance as well as the Psychological Society of Ireland. This group is finalising its report and when completed I will be in a position to decide on proposals to bring to Government for the establishment of a national educational psychological service. I hope to be in a position to do so in the near future.
