Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

Michael Creed

Question:

44 Mr. Creed asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the immediate prospects for inward investment projects to be located on the IDA land banks in Millstreet, Kanturk and Charleville, County Cork. [15773/98]

I am informed by the IDA that there are no projects in the pipeline at present for the landbanks at Millstreet, Kanturk and Charleville. However, during 1997, 1,510 new jobs were created by IDA Ireland in the south west region bringing the total employed there in overseas companies to more than 13,699 people.

The issue of regional distribution continues to be a high priority for IDA Ireland, with companies based in large population centres being encouraged to locate part of their expansion projects in smaller regional locations. The Deputy can be assured that IDA Ireland will continue to actively promote the south west region including Millstreet, Kanturk and Charleville for overseas mobile investment.
