Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rent Supplement Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

176 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total number of families receiving rent subvention from the various health boards; the extent to which this number corresponds with the total number of persons on the registered housing lists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16795/98]

Information on the number of families receiving rent supplementation is a matter for the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs. The Economic and Social Research Institute's report entitled An Analysis of Social Housing Need — Report No. 168, December, 1995 — suggested that there was at most a 25 per cent overlap between the local authority housing list and the SWA rent supplement scheme.
