Vol. 494 No. 3

Written Answers - Baldonnel Aerodrome.

Austin Deasy

Question:

110 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Defence if any approaches have been made from the private sector to have Baldonnel Aerodrome used jointly as an air force base and commercial entity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17985/98]

A number of approaches have been made in recent months by private concerns regarding the possible use of Baldonnel Aerodrome in the light aircraft-executive jet sector. My concern, in examining these proposals, would be to protect the military aviation interests at the aerodrome. However, the other implications of the greater use of Baldonnel for the provision of a non military aviation service are appropriate for consideration by the Minister for Public Enterprise.
