Vol. 494 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Allowances.

Michael Ring

Question:

369 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is entitled to a back to school education allowance; and when a decision will be made on her application. [18630/98]

One of the conditions for receipt of my Department's back to education allowance — third level option — requires the applicant to be attending a full-time course of study which is recognised by the Department of Education and Science for the purposes of the higher education grants scheme or by the National Council for Educational Awards. The course being attended by the person concerned does not satisfy this condition as it is a postgraduate course outside of the State. The person concerned was informed of the decision on her application on 26 September 1998.
