Written Answers. - Hospital Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

109 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of moneys drawn down in 1998 in respect of the hospital building programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19042/98]

113

asked the Minister for Health and Children the extent to which he expects the hospital development capital programme to be implemented in 1999; the hospitals to benefit under this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19049/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 109 and 113 together.

The total amount of capital grants paid by my Department to the health agencies in respect of the general hospitals programme in the period 1.1.98 to 30.9.98 is of the order of £59 million.

The health capital programme for 1999 has not yet been finalised, but I can tell the Deputy that the principal hospital projects which will require capital funding in 1999 to meet planning fees or construction work or equipping costs will include the developments at Tallaght, the Mater, Temple Street, St Luke's and St Anne's, St Vincent's, Elm Park, Beaumont, Naas, St James's, Crumlin, Tullamore, Portlaoise, Limerick, Nenagh, Ennis, Monaghan, Sligo, Kilkenny, Clonmel, Cashel, Cork University Hospital, Mercy Hospital, South Infirmary-Victoria, University College Hospital, Galway, Portiuncula, Roscommon, and Mayo.

Provision will also be made in 1999 for the funding of various minor capital works and hospital equipment requirements, to the extent that resources permit.

Question:

110 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children whether substantial monies will be drawn down in respect of the Naas Hospital development programme in 1999 in the context of the forthcoming budget and the Estimates drawn up by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19043/98]

The phase 2 development of Naas General hospital is currently being planned. The precise funding required for the project in 1999 will depend on several factors, including the rate of progress in relation to the completion of the planning and tendering process, and it is not possible to give a precise figure for the funding requirement at this stage.
