256 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo, who needs cataract operations in both eyes, will be called for her operations. [19456/98]

The provision of hospital services to eligible persons in County Mayo, in this instance, is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Question:

257 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford who is awaiting heart by-pass surgery at St. James's Hospital, Dublin, and who has been advised that his condition is acute but has been unable to determine when his operation will be carried out. [19469/98]

The provision of medical treatment in this instance is the responsibility of St. James's Hospital. I have asked the chief executive officer of the hospital to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
