Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

407 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has received an application from a person (details supplied) in County Offaly to buy additional years for pension purposes; if so, the date of receipt of this application; whether the applicant qualifies for this purchase; if he will ensure the application is granted and the appropriate pension adjustments are made without further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19411/98]

My Department has received two applications for the purchase of actual service from the teacher in question. The first application was received in response to Circular 26/97 which sought applications from serving teachers. This was received and acknowledged in October 1997. The second application was receieved in response to Circular 10/98 which sought applications from retired teachers. This was received in August 1998 and has been acknowledged.

The teacher in question retired in July 1996. On the basis of his service record, the teacher is eligible to purchase service. His application is being processed and it is expected that a quotation for the purchase of actual service will be issued to him by the end of the current month.
