Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jim Higgins

Question:

102 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to approve the tendering of the badly needed sewerage treatment plant at Crossmolina, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19394/98]

Enda Kenny

Question:

287 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in relation to the provision of a sewage treatment plant for Crossmolina, County Mayo, in view of the existing but inadequate treatment plant which discharges poorly treated effluent into the river Deel at Crossmolina which has been recognised as being the only major point source of effluent in the Lough Conn system; when the proposal will be put to tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19124/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 102 and 287 together.

As outlined in my reply to Question No. 103 of 7 October, 1998, this scheme is included in my Department's 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning. Contract documents for civil and mechanical elements of the scheme were recently received in my Department and are under consideration. Contract documents for site and sewer survey investigations, which are necessary to complete the main civil works tender documents, were approved last July and the local authority's tender report and recommendations in this regard are awaited. A certificate of completion of planning is also awaited.

Billy Timmins

Question:

105 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposal, if any, his Department has received from Wicklow County Council requesting approval for funding for the construction of a reservoir at Baltinglass, County Wicklow; if he has granted approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19424/98]

Contract Documents for the Baltinglass reservoir have been submitted to my Department. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, it is not possible to say when this proposal may be advanced.
