John McGuinness

Question:

127 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny under the afforestation grant scheme. [19064/98]

The first instalment of the afforestation grant in this case was paid to Coillte Teoranta on 4 August 1998, as per the instruction of the person in question. The second instalment or maintenance grant is due for consideration four years after the date of planting of the forest.

The application by the person in question under the afforestation premium scheme is currently under consideration and falls due for payment in December 1998. The farmer rate of premium will be paid on receipt of documentary evidence, namely an income tax assessment issued by the Revenue Commissioners and if farming income is not shown on the tax assessment, farm accounts certified by the Revenue Commissioners, showing that the applicant is in receipt of at least 25 per cent of her total income from farming in any one of the three income tax years prior to the date of planting.

This information was requested in letters to the applicant dated 18 August and 28 August 1998. On receipt of this information the premium application will be considered further.
