Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Donal Carey

Question:

407 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request from the management and parents of St Flannan's College, Ennis, County Clare, for additional teachers to cater for the needs of their students, in view of the fact that they are anxious for a phased reduction in the ratio for appointing teachers to second level schools which would continue until levels of staffing are adequate to allow them to cater for all their student needs. [20160/98]

My Department has no record of a request from the management and parents of St. Flannan's College, Ennis, County Clare for an increase in the teacher allocation to the school. The question of reducing the pupil teacher ratio in second level schools, including St. Flannan's College, must be considered in the context of available resources.
