Vol. 495 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John McGuinness

Question:

435 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, made in relation to the provision of a third teacher for Drumphea national school, County Carlow; if his Department has examined the provision of temporary class rooms; the long-term plans, if any, approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20471/98]

An inspector from my Department recently visited Drumphea national school. Unfortunately, an aspect of the inspector's report requires clarification with the result that a final decision in the matter of allocating additional staffing to the school cannot be made pending receipt of this clarification. This clarification has been srought.

My Department would be prepared to consider grant-aiding the rental of suitable temporary accommodation for an additional teacher at Drumphea national school, should the need arise. In order to solve the long-term accommodation needs of the school, my Department believes that a new school building is required. The school has been notified of this and architectural planning is being initiated.
