Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Dan Neville

Question:

148 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the cost of restoring the Desmond Castle at Adare, County Limerick; the length of time the work is on hand; when this work will be completed; and the use to which the castle will be put. [20601/98]

The budget for the project at Desmond Castle, Adare, is £500,000. After initial site clearance works and improvement of access, the conservation work commenced in July 1997. It is intended to complete it by end of 2000.

When completed, the castle will be made accessible to the public as an historic ruin.
