Vol. 495 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

181 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the schools which have received additional teaching resources as a result of the demographic dividend; and if he will indicate the nature of the teaching allocation given in each case. [20755/98]

A list of the 67 one-teacher schools which received an additional post as a result of the demographic dividend is currently being compiled in my Department and will be sent to the Deputy shortly.

As regards the nature of the other teacher allocations made, I would point out that remedial and resource teacher posts are allocated on a shared basis among a number of schools The actual amount of time allocated to each school in the cluster is a matter to be determined by the board of management and the local inspector. Accordingly my Department does not maintain details of the actual teaching allocation in these areas which is given to each school.

Of the 122 posts allocated in the special education area, 60 were allocated as remedial teacher posts, 26 as resource teacher posts, 26 as home school community liaison co-ordinators and ten as teacher counsellors.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

182 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will supply a remedial teacher for Inniskeen and Blackstaff schools in County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20756/98]

My capacity to allocate additional remedial teacher posts in any given year is dependent on resource availability and the level of competing demand from other special needs areas.

I will continue to review needs in this area. In the event of additional remedial teacher posts becoming available for allocation, I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school to which he refers will be fully considered.
