Question:140 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a submission from Dublin Corporation proposing a £3 per night room tax; and his views on this proposal. [20768/98]

I have received no formal submission from Dublin Corporation on this matter, although a personal letter from the city manager about the proposal was sent to the Secretary General of my Department for his information in July this year.
While it would be premature to comment in the absence of a formal submission, the introduction of any new taxes, either central or local, would require detailed consideration to assess all relevant implications.
