149 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the amount paid by her Department to surveyors employed in the assessment of vessels for which tenders might be sought to ferry passengers to and from offshore islands; and if she will make a statement on the matter. 150 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the reason her Department does not avail of the information contained in the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources vessel register in respect of vessels for which tenders are sought to ferry passengers to and from offshore islands; the reason her Department considers it necessary to seek advice from independent surveyors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department has not employed any independent surveyors for the purpose of evaluating tenders for the provision of passenger ferry services from and to the offshore islands. This evaluation process has been carried out by officers of my Department in consultation with the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources where necessary.
