Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ferris — the need for a properly resourced follow-up programme for children who are departing from special residential schools to prevent them from returning to a dysfunctional environment; (2) Deputy Durkan — the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 408 of 13 October 1998 regarding the withdrawal of free school transport for children attending Hewetsons School, Millicent, Clane, County Kildare; (3) Deputy Sargent — the need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to immediately revoke measure five of the rural environment protection scheme to prevent the further destruction of hedgerows by farmers and agricultural contractors; (4) Deputy Seán Ryan — the difficulties being experienced by the Government with the EU Commission regarding new urban renewal schemes and the need for designated status for Balbriggan in the context of any new schemes being approved; (5) Deputy Cosgrave — the failure of the Department of Health and Children to provide health care costs and an ex-gratia payment to a person (details supplied), who is now resident outside the State and who was infected with hepatitis C following the administration of anti-D blood products; (6) Deputy Shatter — the need to discuss the health boards inability to undertake assessments as to whether a child is at risk following a court request, to report back to the court within a reasonable time and the consequent risk to the child's welfare; (7) Deputies Farrelly and Crawford — the failure to have McCarrons bacon factory in Cavan reopened or Dromone meat processing factory, in Oldcastle, County Meath licensed for export; (8) Deputy Crawford — the need to discuss the crisis in the pig industry in the Border region, the fact that farmers cannot sell pigs at any price and the failure to have McCarrons in Cavan reopened or Dromone factory, Oldcastle, licensed for export; (9) Deputy Stagg — the issues arising from the jailing yesterday of two building workers.

The matters raised by Deputies Farrelly and Crawford, Cosgrave, Stagg and Ferris have been selected for discussion.
