Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Farm Income.

Donal Moynihan

Question:

241 Mr. D. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the estimate of farm incomes for 1998 and the corresponding figures for 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21196/98]

Estimates of farm income are published each year by the CSO and Teagasc using different methodologies and definitions. The latest year for which published data is available is 1997.

The following is the published data for the years 1990 and 1997.

Year

CSO Estimate of Aggregate Farm Income

Teagasc Estimate of Average Farm Income

£ million

£

1990

1,698.1

6,611

1997

1,952.9

10,798

No official figures are yet available for 1998 from either Teagasc or the CSO, but the likelihood is that farm income for the year as a whole will be approximately the same as last year.
