Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Extradition Proceedings.

Tony Gregory

Question:

589 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the British authorities have sought the extradition of a person (details supplied). [21342/98]

It is not the practice for Ministers for Justice, Equality and Law Reform either to confirm or deny the existence of particular extradition requests, or whether or not proceedings have been initiated in a specific case, in advance of an arrest and the bringing of an individual before a court. Apart from other considerations, the disclosure of information of this kind in relation to a particular case could seriously hinder appropriate Garda action.
