755 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will employ and fund youth workers through the existing youth service programme to deal with the problems of young people in disadvantaged areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21893/98]
My Department is currently funding approximately 150 projects countrywide under the terms of the grant scheme for special projects to assist disadvantaged youth. Due to the high level of these ongoing commitments, it has not been possible in the current year to increase the number of projects supported under the scheme. My Department will review this position in the context of available funding in 1999.
