Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Enda Kenny

Question:

264 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of male patients on a waiting list for prostate operations in each health board area; the proposals, if any, to reduce these waiting lists as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22467/98]

My Department does not collect separate statistics on the numbers awaiting prostate procedures. Those waiting for prostate surgery would be included within waiting lists for wider specialties such as urology and general surgery.

I have received the report of the review group on the waiting list initiative and I am committed to implementing its recommendations. I am satisfied that the co-ordinated approach recommended by the review group will help to reduce waiting times and waiting lists for all targeted in-patient treatments, including prostate procedures.
