Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Library Projects.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

310 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the existing public library at Gorey, County Wexford, is not adequate to meet the needs of this developing and expanding town; the reason for the delay in provision of funding for the proposed new library; when this funding will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22570/98]

Ivan Yates

Question:

311 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if funding will be made available for the construction of a new library in Gorey, County Wexford, as submitted by Gorey Town Commissioners and Wexford County Council; if it will be included in the investment programme in view of the total capital allocation for library development in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22571/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 310 and 311 together.

Sketch design and cost plan proposals for a new branch library in Gorey, County Wexford were received by the Department in February 1997 and are being considered. Having regard to the high level of demand for funding for public library proposals generally, it has not been possible to indicate when the proposals may be approved. However, I have recently received the public library policy review report and will be arranging for a review of applications for funding generally, in the light of the report's recommendations.
