Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Accommodation and Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

427 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funding for the provision of an extra classroom at Burgess national school, Carrigatoher, Nenagh, County Tipperary; and if he will appoint a remedial teacher to this school in view of the fact the board of management has been seeking access to a remedial teacher for many years. [22629/98]

My Department is currently examining an application for additional accommodation at Burgess national school.

My capacity to allocate additional remedial posts in any given year is dependant on resource availability and the level of competing demand from other special needs areas. Unfortunately, the number of schools seeking the appointment of a remedial teacher considerably exceeded the number of posts available for allocation.
I assure the Deputy the needs of Burgess national school, Carrigatoher, Nenagh will be considered in the context of any additional remedial teacher post allocations, and the capital funding provision.
